What Ibotta is best at
Ibotta is the right tool when you're shopping in-store grocery, beauty, and pharmacy receipts. For our broader take on which portal to use when, see the cashback portal comparison.

- Some offers cap at one redemption per household
How to use Ibotta alongside promo codes
Open Ibotta in a fresh tab before you start shopping. Search for the retailer, click the "Shop now" link, and complete the entire cart inside the resulting session. Apply your promo code at checkout as you normally would — Ibotta tracks the gross transaction amount before any code is applied, so you collect cashback on the pre-discount total in most cases.
If you also use a category-bonus credit card, swipe it as usual: card rewards and portal cashback are fully independent layers and stack in full.
How payouts work
Cashback typically posts as "pending" within 7-14 days of the transaction, then converts to "available" once the retailer's return window closes (usually 60-90 days). Payouts run via PayPal, Venmo, or gift cards once you hit $20, with a minimum of $20 per cashout.
Missing-cashback claims
Every portal occasionally misses a transaction — usually because of an ad-blocker, a closed tab, or a coding mismatch on the retailer side. Ibotta's missing-cashback claim form is in your account dashboard. File within 90 days of the transaction with your order confirmation attached and the cashback typically posts within 4-8 weeks.
Where Ibotta doesn't fit
If Ibotta doesn't carry a particular retailer in its network (or the rate at that retailer is meaningfully lower than a competitor), use a different portal for that purchase. There's no penalty for switching — most serious stackers keep two or three portal accounts active and route each purchase to whichever pays the most for that retailer.
